What I do

Restoration

From a beloved family piece or a little something you found at an auction or second-hand shop, not always is a piece of furniture looking or working at its best. Most times it is because of natural wear and tear of everyday use, sometimes due to accidents around the house or in worst cases damaged from thieves looking into locked areas. Just because it may not look much doesn’t mean that you have to take it to the skip. (more…)

Turning

Looking for a gift that is a one-off? have a broken wooden knob on a chest of drawers or a missing light pull and you don’t like having to replace the whole set? Wood turning can cover a varied range of items. Wooden bowls can make great gifts of any occasion and can be personalised with a hand carved name, their shapes are only limited by your imagination and the size of the piece of wood. If the wooden item you need is in the round no doubt it was turned on a lathe and a copy can be made. Visit this page and select turning to view some of my turning projects.

Bespoke

Sometimes no matter how many shops you visit, how many hours in front of the computer, you can’t always find the right piece of furniture you want: it‘s too big, too small, you love the shape but you want it in oak and it only comes in pine. Having a piece made to your requirements can be easier than you may think and there is no need to leave your home. With a home visit I go through with you to find out exactly what you would like, the space you have and how the new piece would help complement the rest of the room. (more…)

About

Nic

I am a second generation cabinet maker, inheriting the trade from my father who was a carpenter joiner. Apprenticed at 16, I was placed through the Youth Training Scheme with The London College of Furniture. Following 2 years’ study at Nescot, I achieved my NVQ level 3 in carpentry & joinery as the top student of the year in my course.

I worked for 7 years for Harman’s Antiques of Dorking, restoring and refurbishing a vast range of wooden antiques. I am now self-employed as a cabinet maker, continuing to restore furniture as well as designing and making bespoke pieces to commission.
